The importance of exfoliation

Exfoliating is one of the most beneficial steps in a skincare routine that is commonly skipped.

Although our skin naturally sheds dead skin cells/cell turnover every 30 days or so, exfoliating is the method used to help speed up that process by buffing away/removing the dead skin cells that lay on the surface of our skin. This is done by using either a physical exfoliant that has some texture to it and used as a scrub or a chemical exfoliant which is made with an acid to exfoliate, such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid and so on. The natural cell turnover process slows down as we age and is slower on acne prone skin as well.

By exfoliating regularly, you are removing the layer of dead skin that causes dullness and clogged pores, and are then opening the pores and stimulating new skin cell growth which allows your other products such as moisturizers, serums, anti-aging creams etc to penetrate the skin more effectively and not be wasted by applying onto dead skin cells.

For all skin types, exfoliation gives the face/skin a renewed, refreshed and instant glow.

Adding this step to your skincare routine is the maintenance needed to keep your skin healthy while looking and feeling silky soft and smooth and aids in the anti-aging area as well.

Exfoliating is recommended to be done 2-3 times a week, every few days, as long as your skin can handle it. With chemical exfoliants being as fine as they are, you can use them more often...it really just comes down to how your skin handles it.
